Trina Bawden-Smith - Tuesday, September 09, 2014
We are so excited that the Australian Yoga Therapy Conference will be held in a few weeks. One of our inspiring and experienced speakers is Chandrika Gibson and she will be speaking on the role of yoga therapy in integrative oncology. Chandrika is a yoga therapy trainer, experienced naturopath, project officer at the WA Cancer Council and AAYT committee member.

In this fantastic article, Chandrika gives a great overview of what yoga therapy may actually do for cancer patients including -

• reducing fear of recurrence,
• reducing anxiety and insomnia,
• the effect of yoga therapy on ‘chemo-brain’,
• yoga therapy’s role in pain management,
• managing Lymphoedema,
• decreasing nausea and vomiting,
• improving quality of life and wellbeing,

It is an impressive list! It is great to see the growing body of research for yoga therapy in the oncology setting which contributes to Yoga therapy finding its niche as a validated, proven modality in mainstream medicine. Something that is good news for all of us!
